Pediatric Eye Care

Proper pediatric eyecare is an absolute essential for proper development of your child's valuable sense of sight. What happens during this crucial period of development will set the tone for your child's continued health and educational success. We offer pediatric eye care for children as young as 6 months, the recommended age at which your child should have his or her first eye exam, in order to ensure that they get proper eyecare from the very beginning. After this, we recommend that your child have a comprehensive eye exam at least once per year, to make sure that he or she starts school with proper vision and to monitor for childhood eye conditions that could affect your child for an entire lifetime if not cuaght early.

School Vision

Your child's success or failure in school may depend on how well they can see the world around them. If they cannot see, learning to read or write can be very difficult. Books, examples given at the front of the classroom by the teacher and homework may be blurry or may be seen in double vision, potentially making the learning process into an exercise in frustration and self-defeat.

It is, therefore, important to ensure that your child's vision is ready for the learning process from the very beginning. With this in mind, we offer comprehensive pediatric eye exams that not only include standard tests for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, but also include an examination of other essential skills such as hand-eye coordination, peripheral awareness and binocular vision.

Eye Health

Besides the classroom, it is also important to have your child screened for childhood eye conditions, such as amblyopia, strabismus and others, which are easily treated in early childhood, but become more damaging and hard to correct if your child goes a long time without proper treatment.

Many of these conditions can do serious harm to your child's long term visual health if not detected and treated at an early age. Loss of binocular vision and depth perception, learning difficulties and life-long migraines are just some of the symptoms that can be acquired by inattentiveness to this very important part of your child's overall health.

A comprehensive pediatric eye exam at our eye care clinic will also screen for these conditions and provide proper treatment if your child is diagnosed with such an eye condition.
